Top Sacramento Area Child Therapists

As part of Child Counseling at Brick Road Counseling, we help teach parents the skills they need to decrease their child’s frustration, help their children engage in appropriate conflict resolution, and improve their child’s role as part of the family relationship.

Child Psychotherapy … [is] psychotherapy for children up to the age at which they reach puberty.  The focus may be on emotions, cognitions, or behavior.  The level of parental involvement typically depends on the age of the child, type of problem, or approach used.  The child may be treated concurrently in group or family therapy.”  American Psychological Association, Dictionary of Psychology (2021).

How are we different in our approach to child counseling?  Parents are directly involved.  One-hour-a-week with a therapist can never match a parent’s influence on the lives of their children, so we provide in-home Child Counseling for children needing behavioral intervention.  In the home we assess, create structured Behavior Plans, and teach parents how to implement them.

Child Counseling is available for various issues, including:

  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder (“ODD”)
  • Trauma
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • ADD/ADHD
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • And more…

Our goal is to partner with you as a parent and model counseling techniques that empower you to help your child through whatever difficulties they face.  For positive results, the younger the child, the more the family must be the focus of treatment, usually as part of an overarching Family Counseling treatment plan.

Let's Talk

The first step in therapy is talking. Let's find a time where we can meet and talk about what's on your mind.
